SALT LAKE CITY — It’s been a while. And because it has, all this snow felt new again.
“It’s so much fun. Yeah, we absolutely love it,” said Shon Colarusso.
The Colarusso family heard snow might be possible on Saturday, so when they checked the weather in the morning and saw it was snowing up Big Cottonwood Canyon, they knew Silver Lake would be a great place to visit.
“There is something about the snow. It means the holidays are coming,” Colarusso said. “So, as we were walking around the lake, the kids started singing Christmas carols.”
The snow sure helped to make it feel like Christmas. Since their son will soon be away on his religious mission, seeing Utah snow before he leaves was important to him.
“I loved in school, I would look out the window and be like it’s snowing! I would be so happy to walk home when all the other kids would get in cars because it’s just the best type of weather there is,” Dane Colarusso said.
Everyone who was up in the mountains to see the snow, and take pictures of it all, probably agree. The first snow fall just feels special.
“I don’t know. I just think it’s really romantic in a way,” Lillie Hammock, who lives in Bountiful and went up the mountain just to see the snow said. “I think there’s something about it that speaks to people in a way, kind of the end of fall, which in of itself is beautiful.”
For as beautiful as fall was this year in Utah, it can’t last forever. For those who don’t like snow, or anything about the winter cold, we all know we need the water.
For our drought’s sake, hopefully this snowstorm is the first of many.
“This is the right stuff,” said Colarusso. “We need it.”
