SALT LAKE CITY — One person was taken to the hospital in serious condition when a pick-up truck ran a stop sign and collided into another car.
The truck was headed North on 1000 West at high speeds when it struck a car going East on 400 South.
A SLCPD patrol SUV was conveniently traveling West on 400 South when the collision happened right in front of the two officers.
The SLCPD driver used emergency training techniques to avoid a full on collision, and the passenger side of the patrol SUV clipped the back of the stolen pickup.
Witnesses saw two males in the pickup truck flee the scene. Officers chased them down and one is in custody, the other remains on the run.
The investigation began close to 5 p.m. Wednesday, when a SLCPD officer saw the tan Ford pick-up near 500 South and 1000 West, and noted the license plate to the pick-up came back as stolen, though the officer did not chase or follow the truck.
