SALT LAKE CITY — Interstate 80 will be closed in both directions between 700 East and Foothill Drive overnight on Friday night and Saturday night.
The Utah Department of Transportation said the closures will be from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. on both nights — Oct. 28 & Oct. 29 — and drivers should avoid the area as crews place beams for the new 1300 East bridge over I-80.
Drivers are encouraged to use I-15 to I-215 as an alternate eastbound route.
The project website and maps of detour routes can be found here.
This will allow our crews to place the beams on the new 1300 East bridge. I-80 needs to close because this is a large operation. We will use two cranes to move 11 steel beams into place. Each beam weighs 70,000 lbs and is 174 feet long.

Similar to previous construction on the 1700 East bridge replacement, the 1300 East bridge over I-80 is being constructed next to the current bridge. Once the new bridge is completed next spring, the old bridge will be demolished and the new bridge will slide into its place.
