UPDATED: Woman critically injured after being hit by a car

SALT LAKE CITY — A woman was critically injured when she was hit by a car at 2135 South 900 East.
According to Salt Lake City Police, the 74-year-old woman was walking when she was struck.
A crash team responded and police were asking people to avoid the area from 900 East from 2100 South to Elm Ave. which police said will be closed for several hours.

When the Salt Lake City Fire Department arrived they found the woman in the road and began life saving measures.
She was transported to the hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with this investigation.
Police believe the driver turned south on 900 East and the woman was hit crossing the street.
Additional information on the crash was not immediately available.
