ROY, Utah — Some tense and heated moments on a very busy street in Roy after a fight breaks out and a gun is pulled following a chain-reaction crash Wednesday afternoon.
According to Stuart Hackworth, public information officer for the Roy Police Department, officers responded to a crash involving four cars at 5400 S. 1900 West just before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
A truck slammed into the back of another vehicle and started a chain reaction with a total of four cars involved.
While police responded, it was reported that a man had a gun and a physical fight took place.
The driver of the truck who spoke with KSL TV and didn’t want to give his name or appear on camera said after the crash he went running out to see if everybody was OK. That’s when he says two guys from the vehicle he hit got out and started beating him up.
He said they were really angry with him and started to hurt him pretty bad. Police say that’s when he pulled out his gun.
“The person that caused the incident was conceal carrying a pistol and produced that pistol at the side of their leg and basically telling the person to back off,” said Roy police Sgt. Andrew Harper. “Sounds like he was acting in self-defense.”
Harper says drivers need to control their tempers out on the roadways.
“In these situations, it can be tough to stay calm, but take a deep breath until police get there,” he said.
Two people from the other two cars involved in the crash were transported to the hospital with injuries from the crash.
There were no injuries from the fight and no shots were fired, according to Hackworth.
No arrests have been made and no charges have been issued, but police say the investigation is still continuing with more interviews that have to take place.
