MOUNTAIN GREEN, Utah — First responders extinguished a burning trash can Friday evening, replicating a fire from a year ago.
At approximately 7:20 p.m., residents near Park Meadow Road and Harvard Drive reported a trash can on fire next to a home, according to the Mountain Green Fire Protection District.
Neighbors moved the burning trash can away from the home to a nearby vacant lot. Responding firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the melted trash can.
According to the fire district’s Facebook post, neighbors told first responders that they heard a “car noise, then a ‘bang’ like fireworks” before seeing the fire and moving the bin.
“Suspiciously a year ago, a similar trash can fire occurred at the neighbor’s address, also on Thanksgiving weekend,” reads the post.
After putting out the trash fire, firefighters discovered smoke in the cap of their engine.
“A small electrical fire was burning insulation on a wire that led to an un-used onboard battery charger that had been removed years ago,” according to Mountain Green Fire. “They quickly removed the access panel and the main mobile radio and extinguished the fire, saving your fire engine from further damage.”
Morgan Sheriff’s Office and the Mountain Green Fire Marshal are investigating the trash bin fire.
No injuries or displacements were reported.
