SALT LAKE CITY — A 22-year-old man was arrested early Sunday after fleeing from a traffic stop.

A similar white SUV was spotted near 500 South Navajo Street at 3:19 a.m. Officers believed this was the white SUV that was stolen.
According to police documents, Officers believed the white SUV they just found was the stolen white SUV that fled from other officers earlier based on the fast and reckless manner for which the white SUV they were watching was being operated. Officers attempted to stop the white SUV, but the driver refused to pull over.
A few minutes later, the driver of the white SUV that police spotted near 500 South Navajo Sreet got out of the car and began running away into the neighborhood.
Police began a highly coordinated search. officers set up containment borders where he was last seen in the 900-block of West Pueblo Street.
During their search, officers heard gunshots that were later determined to be unrelated to the case.
Finally, at 4:38 a.m., police found the suspect hiding in a garbage can near 950 South and 1500 West, where he was taken into custody.
The suspect, identified as Bhode Smith, was booked in jail on a number of charges. A woman that was in the white SUV was also arrested and booked into jail on active warrants.
Officers determined, however, that Smith and the white SUV they drove were separate from the stolen white SUV that officers tried to stop at 800 West North Temple. That SUV and the suspect driver are still wanted by police as they may be connected to the aggravated assault that happened Saturday night.
