ST. GEORGE, Utah — A house is a total loss and inhabitable after an attic fire causes the roof to collapse Saturday afternoon.
St George Fire Chief Robert Stoker told KSL that the house fire was near 1800 S 2600 E after the occupants reported a chimney fire from the wood stove.
When fire crews arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the home. The occupants were out of the home and were unharmed.
While crews were fighting the fire, the roof collapsed, and they pulled firefighters from the single-story house, Stoker said. No firefighters were injured.
Stoker said the fire was burning in the attic for a while before the occupants noticed it.
During the fire, the St. George Police Department asked residents to avoid the area while first responders handled the situation.
“We know you are curious, but when lookie loos converge in the area it makes it very difficult for responders to get in and out of the scene to do their job,” reads their Facebook post.
