Tips for affordable meals this holiday season
SALT LAKE CITY — Preparing your Christmas dinner can be a little stressful this year if your finances are tight.
We’re dishing out some ways you can “save more and worry less.”
Even with high grocery prices, you can make affordable meals without sacrificing some of your family favorites.
“Even if you are the host of a meal, you do not have to provide every food item,” said Kim Ritter, who writes a blog called Two kids and a Coupon.
She says to plan a potluck and have guests bring a dish or two. It’s not only affordable, but you can try different dishes for the first time.

She also recommended grocery shopping at several places, even ones you don’t usually go to, like a dollar store.
“While they might not offer produce, they do offer boxed staples like stuffing, pudding mix, flour and other items you might need for your holiday meal,” she said.
Ritter added couponing is the way to go. She’s saved up to $100 a month using digital coupons. If you have a smartphone, you can download apps like Ibotta or Target Circle, which can take money off your purchase or give you cash back when you buy.
“If you could get $10 on a $30 purchase, isn’t that worth taking 10 seconds to snap a receipt?” Ritter asked.
If you are struggling with buying groceries right now, you’re not alone. There are a lot of charitable organizations here locally that can help. You can call 211 to get connected.
