Park City Mountain employee dies after being knocked from chairlift

PARK CITY, Utah — A Park City Mountain employee died Monday after falling 25 feet from one of the chairlifts.
The incident happened on the Short Cut chairlift at approximately 10:45 a.m.
According to a statement from Sara Huey, senior manager of communications of Vail Resorts, the employee, who was working at the time, was riding the chairlift when a tree fell on the line, knocking the employee from their seat.
Ski patrol at the resort responded immediately, but the employee died from their injuries.
“The Park City Mountain team — as well as the entire Vail Resorts team — extend our deepest sympathy and support to the family and friends of our team member,” said Deirdra Walsh, Park City Mountain vice president & chief operating officer. “We are all deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and we will be providing support for our employees as we grieve this devastating loss.”
Resort officials said the remaining 10 people on the chairlift were safely evacuated by Park City Mountain ski patrol by 1:06 p.m.
“Several other chairlifts in the area were closed to support the response, but are anticipated to open tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023,” read part of the statement.

The Short Cut chairlift will remain closed, pending an investigation.
