SANDY, Utah — Just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Alta High School was given the all clear after a suspicious bag had been found.
Students and faculty at Alta High School were evacuated from the school as a precaution and at the request of first responders Wednesday afternoon after a suspicious bag was found, according to Canyons School District spokesperson Jeff Haney.

He said a former student brought the bag and left it at the school around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and there were “concerns about the contents of the bag.”
“Out of an abundance of caution and safety for students and teachers, we’re evacuating the building while police can investigate the contents of the bag,” Haney said.
According to Sgt. Greg Moffit, the bag found on campus did not contain an explosive device.
“The circumstances surrounding the purpose the former student was on campus is currently being investigated to determine if any criminal acts were committed.”
Parents picked up their students at the Latter-day Saint meetinghouse southwest of the school. Buses were dispatched to the school.
Senior Liz Numbers was in seminary class when she found out.
“My friend came in and was like, ‘hey, everyone is evacuating the school.’ So I was texting all my other friends, like, ‘what’s going on?'” Numbers said.
“It is kind of freaky, I hear a lot about gun threats and bomb threats in other places and I just never expect it to happen to me or my school,” Numbers said.
