SALT LAKE CITY — A woman was arrested in connection with a domestic violence murder that happened in September.

Salt Lake City Police issued a press release that said 22-year-old Lashawn Denise Bagley was arrested in Houston, Texas, under an arrest warrant, charging her with one count of Domestic-Violence Murder and nine-counts of Felony Discharge of a Firearm.

The suspect was found through a collaboration between members of the Southern District of Texas U.S. Marshals Service and SLCPD.

It started on Sept. 12, 2022, when SLCPD responded to a shooting near 900 South 200 West in Salt Lake City, where 27-year-old Demetrius Allen was found with a gunshot wound. Police said they saw multiple bullet holes coming from the apartment.

Allen was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

Bagley made the call to 911, and the operator asked what the loud noises were. According to court documents, Bagley said, “I’m shooting,” and told the operator that she had run out of bullets.

She was first arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of murder and a felony discharge of a firearm, but detectives needed to do more investigating, and Bagley left Salt Lake City while they did.

During that time, detectives found out that the victim, Allen, was a professional bull rider staying at Bagley’s apartment, and the two had been in an on-and-off relationship.

Initial reports said that the two were in a relationship when the shooting occurred.

He went back to pick up some $10,000 worth of equipment from the apartment, and police said they believe Bagley was upset with him because of his interest in her friend.

After going over the case with the district attorney, police obtained the necessary court-authorized warrant and confirmed Bagley’s arrest in Houston on Jan. 6.

“The impulsiveness of the defendant’s actions and her wiliness to fire a handgun at unarmed persons whom she knew and was friends with at the time, demonstrates that she is a danger to the community,” detectives wrote in court documents seeking a no-bail hold.
