ST. GEORGE, Utah — A mixed martial artist who fled to Las Vegas, Nevada, is now in police custody after two alleged assaults against the mother of his son.

On Jan. 1, Cain Castillo, 36, was booked into the Washington County Jail for felony counts of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and aggravated child abuse – intentionally or knowingly, according to the affidavits.

Early Sunday morning, police responded to a family fight near 2100 W 1600 N and were looking for 30-year-old Shayliann Lastowskl. Her parents told police that she and Castillo were at their house and drinking when a fight began between the two suspects.

According to the affidavits, Castillo took the alcohol away from Lastowskl and into another room because “once she starts drinking, she becomes angry and often out of control.”

The two suspects began a verbal altercation inside one of the bedrooms where their one-year-old son was. The parents told police they heard the fight turning physical.

According to the affidavits, Lastowskl’s mother told police she could “specifically hear the sound of a fist hitting flesh at least once.” When the mother went to the hallway, she saw Shayliann lying on her back in the bedroom doorway. Lastowskl told her parents that Castillo punched her multiple times.

Lastowskl’s mother noticed Lastowskl’s face was beginning to look swollen.

The parents attempted to calm down the two suspects and separate them, but Lastowskl threw items off a living room shelf and pulled a bookshelf filled with sports memorabilia valuing thousands of dollars.

According to the affidavits, Lastowskl’s father called police which caused her to flee from the scene on foot. While police were investigating the incident, Lastowskl returned to her parent’s home and was placed into custody. Castillo was also placed into custody.

“(Lastowskl) then stated that she had hit (Castillo) back during the argument in the bedroom,” according to the affidavits. “When asked for clarification if (Castillo) was the one who punched
her (Lastowskl) nodded her head yes, but kept repeating that she was scared to get him in trouble.”

While in police custody, officers witnessed Shayliann’s eyes roll back, and she slumped over in the seat of the police car as she was convulsing and unresponsive. She was sent to the hospital and kept seizing on and off.

According to the affidavits, Shayliann’s mother told police she didn’t have a history of seizures besides an incident on Mar. 24, 2022, when Castillo allegedly assaulted her and caused a stroke.

During that incident, officers responded to a family fight between Shayliann and Castillo near 100 West and West St. Goerge Blvd. Witnesses and the involved parties told police that Shayliann and Castillo were having a verbal argument outside the home when she attempted to leave in her car.

“While at their vehicle (Shayliann) was shoved into the vehicle by (Castillo), at which point she stated she wanted to kill herself and walked away,” according to the affidavits. “This was when (Castillo) punched her in the back of the head, knocking her to the roadway. (Castillo) then dragged her to the walk while yelling at her. ”

It’s unknown if Castillo was arrested during the March incident, but he soon fled Utah to Las Vegas with a warrant for his arrest after giving police an alias of “Cain Carrizosa.”

While being transported to the Washington County Jail for the January incident, Castillo told the officer “that once he is released, he is leaving the area and never coming back,” according to the affidavits. Police requested a no bail for Castillo.

Castillo faces additional felony charges of robbery and aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury for the March incident.

Lastowski is facing criminal mischief with intentionally damaging property and domestic violence in the presence of a child for the January incident.
