NORTH OGDEN — The North Ogden Police Department is investigating after an elementary-aged child brought and distributed THC-infused gummy worms to other children.
On March 26, an 11-year-old child brought a bag of THC-infused gummy worms from home, believing they were regular gummy worms, a release from the North Ogden Police Department stated. The child, a student at Green Acres Elementary, handed out the gummy worms to four other children 10 to 11 years old at recess.
Police said each child ate between one and three gummy worms. The children became sick, and one contacted their parents about what had happened. That parent responded to the school and notified staff about the incident.
“When it was brought to our attention, we got our school nurse involved, who coordinated with the Poison Control Center,” Lane Findlay, a spokesperson for Weber School District, said. “We also contacted the parents of each student. None of the students were ill (such as vomiting), but they were exhibiting symptoms like light-headedness.”
According to police, Utah Department of Health and Human Services was contacted, and a case was opened against the parent of the child who brought the THC Gummy Worms to school.
