SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Transportation has announced that three major roadways will be closed and delayed from Friday through Tuesday night.
According to a UDOT press release, work on Bangerter Highway will begin on Friday at 9 p.m. as both directions between 12600 and 13400 South will be closed for utility work. Northbound Bangerter Highway will also be closed from Redwood Road to 12600 South.
UDOT said that east and westbound traffic at the 12600 and 13400 South intersections will remain open during these closures. The agency recommends that travelers use 12600 South and Redwood Road as alternate routes.
“This work is part of UDOT’s decade-long effort to eliminate stoplights on Bangerter Highway by converting intersections into interchanges. In addition to 13400 South, UDOT is building interchanges at 4700 South, 9800 South and 2700 West,” the UDOT press release stated.
Bangerter Highway should reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday.
On Saturday, UDOT begins construction on Interstate 15 at 11 p.m., which will last until Sunday at 12 p.m. UDOT reports that northbound I-15 over 800 South will be restricted to two lanes while crews repair the bridge’s surface. The ramp to 600 South (exit 306) will also be closed.
According to UDOT, the largest repair job will be on state Route 201 at 3200 West. Starting Monday at 9 p.m., crews will prepare to replace the bridge decks on the roadway. UDOT said all traffic eastbound traffic will be diverted to the on- and off-ramps at 3200 West.
Then, on Tuesday night, UDOT crews will divert westbound traffic to the on- and off-ramps at 3200 West.
“These detours will remain in place for approximately five months. All east-west travel under SR-201 at 3200 West will also be prohibited. Drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes during commute times,” the press release stated.
