Seven teens injured after rollover crash in Weber County

HUNSTVILLE, Utah – Seven teenagers were sent to the hospital, four critically injured, after their car rolled over and went off the road in Weber County.
Sgt. Mark Horton with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said speeding seemed to be to blame for the early Thursday morning crash. It happened just after midnight in the Monte Cristo Area on State Route 39, south of the Monte Cristo Campground.
The driver was trying to navigate a right-hand turn and went off the road.
“The car is currently suspended in a tree, and so there were some ejections. One of the occupants was able to get out of the car and had to crawl up to the roadway to get cellphone service,” he said.
Four helicopters flew four teens to the hospital. Three were taken by ambulance. Sgt. Horton says the occupants are all between the ages of 14 and 17 years old.
Sgt. Horton believed they were going around 70 mph on a windy mountain road with a speed limit of 40 mph
“We just remind people that out in rural areas, there’s a reason the speed limit’s the speed limit. Please obey them for your safety,” he said.
