UHP: Over 270 Crashes Reported On Utah Roads; Two Troopers Hit

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Over 270 crashes were reported on Utah roads and two Utah Highway Patrol troopers have been hit while responding to crashes in Salt Lake County, according to UHP spokesperson Sergeant Nick Street.
Monday’s final numbers came at 9:30 p.m. and UHP officials asked people to avoid driving if possible Monday night due to poor road conditions and a strain on resources.

Officials said one of the troopers was hit twice at 7100 South on northbound I-15 and the other was hit at 1100 West on I-80.
Both troopers appear to be uninjured.

Slick roads are expected as temperatures drop and snow and rain continue to fall statewide.
Street confirmed six slide-off crashes Monday night on I-70 between mileposts 17 and 82 and said there were no injuries reported.
Later in the evening, a 15-car crash closed southbound I-215’s west belt at 4700 South.
Troopers reminded drivers to slow down and allow for extra travel time in the wintry conditions.
Troopers have investigated 147 crashes statewide so far today. As you are driving the state's roadways, be mindful of slick/icy spots now that the temperature is dropping. Slow down and give yourself the time necessary to react appropriately.

Troopers responded to a fatal crash on NB I-15 Monday afternoon involving two semitrailers near Riverdale Road.
The driver of one semitrailer was parked on the right shoulder of the road and was at the rear of his trailer, readjusting his load.
Troopers said a second semi-truck swerved from the right lane to avoid a crash and hit the driver, according to troopers.
Earlier Monday, multiple slide-offs were reported in Sardine Canyon in northern Utah and the road was temporarily closed as crews worked to clear the snow.
The snow will continue through the day, with up to four inches falling on valley floors, three to six inches on the benches and up to a foot in the mountains.
