HEBER CITY, Utah — A husband and wife from Chandler, Arizona, died after they were found floating unconscious in Deer Creek Reservoir, authorities said.
Officials with the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office said the 911 center was notified about the two adults around 11:45 a.m. Sunday.
“They were boating with adult children at Deer Creek Reservoir when the husband/father entered the water to swim with one of the adult children. When he began struggling in the water, his wife entered the water to assist,” read a Facebook post from WCSO.
Family members reportedly told authorities they witnessed the pair go under the water and “not surface for an extended period of time.”
Several agencies, including members of the Wasatch County Search and Rescue, responded to the scene.
While emergency crews were en route, “Good Samaritan boaters assisted in bringing the patients to shore,” read the Facebook post.
Fire and medical crews provided medical treatment to the 72-year-old man and 58-year-old woman and transported them to area hospitals where they died shortly after.
The couple was later identified as David D. McMillan and Catherine McMillan.
Officials said the cause of death will be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office, but preliminary information suggests the couple may have drowned.
Neither of them was wearing a life jacket, authorities said.
