Power knocked out for thousands as winter storm hits Utah

LOGAN, Utah — Over 8,000 Utahns were without power in Cache County after winter weather hit the area overnight, knocking down power lines and tree limbs and damaging transformers.
Logan city officials said crews were working on restoring power to affected areas Tuesday morning and asked residents to avoid downed power lines.
Schools in the Cache County and Logan City school district started two hours late due to dangerous road conditions and power outages.
Classes at Spring Creek Middle School, Mountainside Elementary School, Wellsville Elementary School and Ridgeline High School were canceled.

In Summit County, around 1,600 Rocky Mountain Power customers were without power while outages were affecting 1,500 residents in the West Point/Syracuse area.
Over 1,300 Utahns lost power due to a handful of outages in Summit County and Tooele County School District officials said Dugway schools will start two hours late Tuesday due to poor road conditions.
Outages were also reported in Delta and near Cedar City, along with outages affecting over 2,000 Utahns near Richfield.
Altogether, over 13,000 Utahns were affected by over 100 outages Tuesday morning.
Power crews reduced that number to just over 2,600 by 11 a.m. and said restoration times for remained outages would vary throughout the day.
