SPRINGVILLE, Utah — A man was fatally shot on his front porch Saturday night and a suspect turned himself in soon after, according to Springville police.

Lt. Warren Foster with the Springville Police Department said that officers responded to multiple calls of gunfire near 250 North 400 E. and found the deceased 42-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds on his front porch.

Police canvassed the area, talking to witnesses and gathering security camera footage. They found the handgun left by the suspect, who fled north.

Later that day, 25-year-old Hunter Lamoreaux went to a local police department claiming he had information about the shooting and wanted to speak to police.

According to arresting documents, officers noticed that Lamoreaux and his car matched witness descriptions of the suspect.

In an interview with police, Lamoreaux “admitted the victim was an acquaintance of his. [Lamoreaux] was upset regarding a pending divorce and custody battle between the victim and his estranged wife [and] stated he did not feel the victim deserved custody of his children and that he had decided approximately two months prior, that the victim needed to die.”

He admitted to police that he drove to the victim’s home and shot him on his porch.

Lamoreaux was booked into the Utah County Jail for felony discharge of a firearm and murder.
