SALT LAKE CITY — An Amber Alert that was issued in April has been canceled after police say three at-risk children have been safely located, and two adults have been arrested.
Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department said their investigation started on April 13 after they were contacted by the Utah Division of Child and Family Services.
DCFS officials said Conchita Leona Peralta had been directed by court order to surrender her children to DCFS custody. When she failed to do so, both agencies attempted to contact her and received no response.
Because authorities believed she was traveling to South Dakota, an Amber Alert was issued simultaneously in both states. Utahns did not receive a wireless emergency alert on their phones because police believed Peralta and the children had already left the state.
That alert had been in effect until Friday, when SLCPD detectives learn Peralta had returned to Utah with the three children.
Peralta and her partner, Fermin Figueroa-Luque, were taken into custody and booked into jail on several outstanding warrants, including endangerment of a child and custodial interference.
The children are safe and in the custody of a responsible party, according to police.
