SALT LAKE CITY — Police arrested a man on New Year’s Eve for allegedly shooting at a home several times.
On Dec. 31, a family hosting a New Year’s Eve party reported a person in a black Tesla driving past the house three times and shooting at the home, according to a police affidavit.
There were 10 people inside the home at the time, including four children. No injuries were reported.
West Valley police found seven shell casings at the scene and damage to the home and three cars parked in front of it.
Two of the victims told police officers that they believed the driver to be a family acquaintance, Anthony Junior Almaguer, 27.
One of the victims said Almaguer had been harassing the family.
As police investigated the drive-by shooting, they learned that officers with another department had caught the driver of a black Tesla at the scene of a hit-and-run.
Police said the driver of the Tesla was Almaguer and he showed signs of intoxication.
Almaguer stands accused of several felonies, including aggravated assault and possessing a dangerous weapon as a restricted person, as he is currently on parole. The 27-year-old is also accused of driving under the influence.
Police said Almaguer showed “wanton disregard for the safety of the general public” by allegedly shooting at a home with so many people, including children, inside.
