Lori Vallow Daybell trial suspended due to new concerns about her competency

SALT LAKE CITY — An Idaho judge has ordered another delay in the murder trial for Lori Vallow Daybell after defense attorneys raised concerns about her competency.
Vallow Daybell’s attorneys submitted court documents to put the trial on hold earlier this week. Seventh District Judge Steven Boyce then agreed Thursday to indefinitely suspend the trial.
It’s the second time questions surrounding Vallow Daybell’s competency have put legal proceedings in this case on hold.
Boyce first ordered a stay in the case against Vallow Daybell on May 27, 2021, when she was found “not competent” to stand trial following a mental health evaluation.
Her legal team, in court records, called her mental health “extremely complex and fragile.” Last April, Boyce issued an order that said Vallow was competent for trial and a trial date was set for January.
Co-conspirators
In May Boyce granted a request from Idaho prosecutors to try Vallow Daybell and her husband Chad Daybell together as co-conspirators in the killings of JJ Vallow, Tylee Ryan and Tammy Daybell.
JJ and Tylee were Lori Vallow’s children and Tammy Daybell was Chad Daybell’s wife.
Vallow Daybell and Daybell pleaded not guilty to all charges.
