SALT LAKE CITY – Police said a woman fled from officers in a stolen vehicle, caused a car crash, and was brought back to the scene by a civilian.
Kristina Felix-McVay, 29, is facing charges for one count of failure to respond to officer’s signal to stop, one count failure to stop at command of law enforcement, one count of theft of a motor vehicle, and one count of failure to comply with duties at a vehicle accident, according to an affidavit.
On Friday, Jan. 3, police said a green 4 Runner was driving recklessly near 4100 South and State St. A police officer reportedly turned on their flashing lights, then the car “accelerated away” from police.
According to the affidavit, police saw the 4 Runner cause an accident, and attempt to drive away. “The vehicle attempted to continue driving but was unable to drive due to the damage,” police said.
Police said McVay, the driver of the 4 Runner, “exited the passenger side of the vehicle and ran on foot away from the vehicle despite me yelling at (McVay) to stop.”
Police said a citizen found McVay and brought her back to the scene of the collision.
After police checked the 4 Runners records, they discovered the vehicle was reported stolen by Cottonwood Heights Police.
Police did not report any injuries sustained during the collision.
