SALT LAKE CITY — Federal authorities are looking for a man who allegedly robbed two Utah banks within 30 days of each other.

According to the FBI, a Black man robbed the American First Credit Union at 3499 S., State Street in Salt Lake City on Aug. 30. He handed a teller a note and fled on foot. Clearfield police said if the man isn’t stopped soon, someone could be seriously hurt.

The second robbery happened on Sept. 27, with the same person robbing the Chase Bank at 1285 E., 3900 South in Salt Lake. He handed the teller a note, pointed a handgun at them, and fled on foot.

Police believe the suspect also robbed a credit union customer in Clearfield on Sept. 9.

“Right now multiple law enforcement agencies are looking for this man; accused of at least three bank robberies in the last month,” Clearfield Police Department Assistant Chief Devin Rogers said. “He’s becoming more brazen and willing to escalate the situation to get what he wants.”

“The suspect followed a customer out of the credit union, pistol-whipped him, and robbed the victim of money he had just withdrawn,” according to the FBI.

In both robberies, the person wore a black beanie, a black face mask, and black pants. In the Aug. 30 robbery, he had a red, white, and black backpack. In the Sept. 27 robbery, the black hoodie had the “Nike logo all over it,” and he was wearing black and white shoes.

FBI Special Agent Steven Hymas said he is concerned about where the violent behavior could be heading.

“Our main concern is the safety of the public and our concern would be if he continues to escalate to feed whatever addiction or problem he has to seek to get money this way,” Hymas said.

Federal authorities consider the man armed and dangerous.

“Money can be replaced, life cannot,” Rogers said.

Clearfield police, South Salt Lake police, and Unified Police Department are working in a joint operation with the FBI to find the man.

The FBI is requesting anyone if information to contact the Salt Lake City Field Office at (801) 579-1400, the Salt Lake City FBI office, or submit a tip at tips.fbi.gov.
