SALT LAKE CITY — Two individuals accused of aggravated robbery at a convenience store were arrested early Sunday morning in the Ballpark neighborhood, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
Police said they received a report around midnight of someone with a gun at 1470 S. State St.
According to SLCPD, Jimmy Gallegos, 19, entered a convenience store with his girlfriend Odalys Garcia, 18. Gallegos began trying on merchandise.
Garcia later left the store, and Gallegos then pulled out a handgun and tried to leave the store without paying for some items, police said. The store clerk wrestled Gallegos to disarm him.
As the two wrestled, Garcia returned to the store and pepper sprayed the clerk, according to police.
SLCPD officers arrived on the scene and stopped both Gallegos and Garcia from leaving.
Police said officers booked Gallegos into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, using a concealed weapon in the commission of a violent felony, and the consumption of alcohol.
Garcia was also booked on charges of aggravated robbery, as well as a minor in consumption of alcohol, unlawful possession of marijuana, and not having a valid driver’s license, according to police.
