Vernal man booked after traffic stop turned into drug bust, police say

VERNAL, Utah — A man was booked Wednesday night after a traffic stop turned into a major drug bust, according to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
According to UCSO, sheriff’s deputies pulled over a 2023 Toyota Tundra on Interstate 15 near Mile Marker 242, after the driver committed several traffic violations.
Deputies said the driver was identified to be 42-year-old Ashley Atwood.
After a K9 was deployed, the UCSO said they located and seized a large number of drugs including:
- 60.75 pounds of Methamphetamine
- 102.7 grams of Heroin
- 61.2 grams of Cocaine
- $61,595 in cash
- 1 handgun
The UCSO said the estimated street value of the Methamphetamine alone is around $550,000.
Atwood was booked into the Utah County Jail for drug distribution charges, according to UCSO.
