Utah LEGO builders experience Brick Fest Live

SALT LAKE CITY — LEGO builders got the opportunity to put their skills to the test on Saturday and Sunday at Brick Fest Live.
Fans of LEGO were able to explore different building opportunities while the inside of the Salt Palace Convention Center. Floor Manager Julius Funches the second said he felt that the event was a popular experience for Utahns.
“So far Utah has been showing out,” Funches said. “It’s a great crowd, and we are glad that we were able to provide a space for everybody in Utah to be able to come out and enjoy themselves with the Brick Fest Live brand.”
According to Funches, a popular area at the event was a derby race car track.
“You get to build the Lego car and race it down the track with your family and friends,” Funches said. “It’s really cool.”
Funches said one of his own favorite parts of Brick Fest Live was a glow-in-the-dark section at the festival.
“You can build anything that you want over there and display it on the back tables,” Funches said. “And then the black light shines on them and gives it a really cool glow in the dark [look.]”
Among other favorites at the Brick Fest Live was a bridge-building competition. This is where people were able to build a bridge within a seven-minute time limit. From there, Funches said weights are put in the middle of the bridge to see how much weight the bridge can hold before breaking.
Although a great place to build anything you can dream of using LEGO’s, the event wasn’t just for fun. An educational component was also part of the festival. Funches said the event shows how kids can take something from their minds and bring it to life.
“[Brick Fest Live] kind of teaches you a little bit of engineering skills as well,” Funches said. “How well [are] you be able to put something together, and have it function properly and look cool?”
History of Brick Fest Live
According to a press release, Brick Fest Live was founded by Chad Collins, a dad who loved to build objects using LEGO.
“At Brick Fest Live, families build together to accomplish their goals and find creative solutions – all while inspiring the next generation of artists, engineers, and leaders,” Brick Fest Live COO Joe Boerner said in a press release.
