Salt Lake County High School Basketball Players of the Week – Week 1

SALT LAKE CITY The Hercules Salt Lake County High School Player of the Week is celebrating the best high school basketball players in Salt Lake County. Presented by Hercules First Federal Credit Union, each week we honor athletes for their exceptional performance on the gridiron. Our winners for week one were Beckham Bayles from Cyprus High School and Skylie Barker from Copper Hills High School

Salt Lake County Players of the Week – Beckham Bayles, Cyprus & Skylie Barker, Copper Hills

Bayles and Cyprus opened the season at home against Tooele High School and wasted no time in settling in. The Pirates seized control with a strong first quarter and ensured they would enjoy opening night with an 89-67 rout. Bayles was dialed in from distance as he made five three-pointers on the night as he would pile up 25 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in the win.

They would improve to 2-0 on the season as they ground out a come-from-behind 76-68 win over Mountain View High School. The Bruins took a 33-30 lead at halftime, but Bayles and his teammates out-gunned them 46-35 in the second half to emerge victorious. Bayles finished the night with 27 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Barker and the Copper Hills Grizzlies opened their season with a visit from Skyridge High School. After falling behind 16-12 in the first quarter, Copper Hills seized control in the second frame, out-scoring the Falcons 22-6. They would cruise the rest of the way as they picked up a dominant 59-38 win. Barker shined with 31 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.

The Grizzlies would follow their opening night win up with a 53-42 win over Bountiful High School. They flipped the script from opening night, racing out to an 18-10 lead after the first quarter. They would use a strong second half to ensure they would open the year 2-0 as Barker led the way with 22 points and six rebounds.

Player of the Week Selection

The selection committee for the Hercules Salt Lake County Player of the Week consists of Jeremiah Jensen and Sam Farnsworth from KSL Sports Live, Dane Stewart from KSL Sports Rewind and Jake Hatch. Jake is the Executive Producer for the KSL Sports Zone. Jake attended Brigham Young University and is a proud native of Orem, UT. He is an alumnus of Mountain View High School, where he was part of the Bruins football program as an offensive and defensive lineman from 2001-04.
