SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Health officials on Friday reported 3,005 more Utahns have tested positive for COVID-19, and eight additional residents have died as a result of the virus.

Currently, 587 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized.

The state’s percent of positive tests is now above 25%.

Testing

The Utah Department of Health reported a total of 1,470,973 people have been tested so far. That’s an increase of 16,129 tests from Thursday’s report.

Of those people, a total of 209,170 have tested positive for COVID-19, which is an increase of 3,005 cases from yesterday.

Hospitalizations

There are currently 587 people hospitalized with COVID-19, and 203 of those patients are in intensive care units. Another 16 patients are currently hospitalized with suspected cases of COVID-19.

Utah’s ICUs are functionally full right now at 85.9%. The state has enough health care workers to provide quality care up to 85% occupancy.

The state’s 16 referral center ICU beds are 89.7% full.

Referral Centers are the hospitals in Utah with the capability to provide the best care for patients with COVID-19. Because most patients are transferred to these facilities, their utilization is the best reflection of the true hospital capacity in Utah when looking at ICU beds.
