PARK CITY — A holiday boutique is benefitting the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program this weekend at Deer Valley Resort.
Weavers and artists both young and old contributed to a holiday boutique that will be open from Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“We’re selling rugs, jewelry, some stuffed animals, some crafts,” said Roger Williams, part of the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program.
Williams is showcasing his artwork alongside some of the pieces, including ceremonial baskets that tell the traditions of their people.
Each ceremonial basket, he said, is symbolic of the lives of the Navajo tribe.
“In ceremonies. In family gatherings. These are things that bring us together and keep us together,” said Williams.
Featuring over 70 Navajo artists, each purchase is as unique as the hands who created it.
Purchases support the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program, which provides and connects resources, like food, medical supplies, and firewood, to elders living on the Navajo Reservation.
“It’s the way they sustain themselves and they’re gonna weave as long as they can,” said Linda Myers, director of the program.
All the proceeds and the money that comes from the rugs go straight back to the weavers who made them. It is something that is bringing communities together and continuing the story.
