SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah –– Officials have now named the victim in a fatal bike crash that happened Thursday on East Frontage Road, (Old Highway 40) near Forestdale Road.

Summit County Sheriff released information on the deceased person and a statement from their family.

21-year-old Hunter Thorstenson of Provo was killed in the crash, they said.

“We grieve with the Thorstenson family and friends,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement released Friday evening. “Hug your loved ones often and tell them how much  you love them.”

The family shared a statement through the sheriff’s office.

“Hunter Thorstenson, 21, of Provo, Utah tragically lost his life on Thursday, July 7 after an accidental collision with a truck while biking in Park City. He is the beloved son of Dan and Rebekah Thorstenson. The tremendous and joyous light that he brought into this world will be forever mourned by all who knew him. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 13 at 11am at 4200 N Foothill Dr, Provo, Ut 84604. All are invited to celebrate his beautiful life with his family that day.”

Witnesses of the crash told deputies that a 21-year-old Provo man was traveling south on Old Highway 40 on an electric assist bicycle.

A release from the sheriff’s office stated, “For reasons unknown, the cyclist swerved into the travel lanes and crossed into oncoming traffic. A 44-year-old male, driving a GMC passenger truck northbound, was unable to avoid hitting the man on the bicycle.”

Thorstenson was wearing a helmet, but received severe injuries. He was flown to a Salt Lake hospital by AirMed, but succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital.
