BEAVER — One person was badly injured when a semi crash temporarily closed southbound Interstate 15 at its junction with Interstate 70 in central Utah near Cove Fort.
Sgt. Cam Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said the crash is at the junction of two of Utah’s major freeways near Beaver. The driver is in critical condition and a helicopter ambulance took the injured man to a hospital.
Roden said the truck drifted off to the right of the freeway and hit the end of the guardrail and then continued off and hit an embankment. The trailer behind the semi hit the truck, opening the trailer and spill food products off the freeway. Roden believed the driver was the only person in the truck but UHP is still working to make sure there were no other victims.
From submitted photos, the truck appeared to have a Smith’s logo on the side and its contents were visibly spilled on the shoulder of the road. Several ground vehicles were visible at the scene.
Southbound lanes were closed for the helicopter to land but the left lane was opened after, though the right lane remained closed and approximately 8 p.m. Roden said it would still be closed for several hours.
The identity of the driver was not known. Updates about a person’s medical condition aren’t typically available after they are transported to a hospital.
