SALT LAKE CITY — The Lone Peak Fire Department announced Sunday that a member of its “Lone Peak Fire family” tragically passed away — the daughter of one of its own and a new mother of twins, Morgan Hughes.
Hughes’ father, Capt. Brian Hodson, has been a part of the department for over 17 years, the department said. It said Hughes was “a cherished member of our family, longer than many of our full-time firefighters.”
Hughes and her husband Sam Hughes had just “received the greatest gift of their lives” on Dec. 19, welcoming twin babies, Hudson and Georgia. The department said the twins were being cared for in the hospital NICU and the new parents “tirelessly” commuted back-and-forth to be with them.
On Saturday, Morgan Hughes unexpectedly died at 23-years-old.
“Morgan was a kind and loving soul whose greatest joy was becoming a mother,” the department said. “She brought light, warmth, and joy into the lives of everyone who knew her, and her loss is immeasurable.”
The department highlighted the challenging road her husband has ahead of him, and noted a *GoFundMe that was organized to help him navigate the “profound” loss while providing for his newborn twins.
