Draper City police searching for man after overnight assault

Oct 1, 2024, 7:29 AM | Updated: 5:46 pm

DRAPER — After police say an assault occurred overnight in Draper, they asked for the public’s help Tuesday morning in their search for the suspect.

The Draper City Police Department said the assault happened near 700 East and 12100 South. DCPD asked people in the area around midnight to relay any information to them.

Police said the assault happened as one man was walking to work and got into verbal altercation with another male.

“That male assaulted him, physically assaulted him, causing injuries that required him to call 911 and he was transported to the hospital for care,” said Lt. Pat Evans with Sandy police.

The victim was transported to the hospital, and was later released.

“We’re happy to say that he’s already been released from the hospital,” Evans said. “He’s in good shape.”

Police also said they don’t believe there is a threat to the public.

“This we believe this was random,” Evans said. “We believe it was very isolated. Nothing that we’ve had happened before in that area recently anyway.”

Evans said the incident serves as a reminder to the community.

“Keep out wherever you are,” he said. Keep an eye out. Watch for people. Watch for suspicious things. Report suspicious things. Always know to have your phone handy to call for police, call for help.”

Further, police said they’re looking for a man who is approximately 6 feet 4 inches tall, with a “bushy beard, bald or short hair, possibly wearing black tennis shoes.”

Later Tuesday, police discovered the suspect “had shaved sides of his face and about a 3 to 4 inch goatee, we believe it was light colored,” Evans said.

Police also said the man was not wearing a shirt.

No further information on the man was provided.

Police asked for any information to be relayed to Detective Christopher Boruch at 801-840-4000.
