Intermountain Healthcare Breaks Ground On New Primary Children’s Hospital In Lehi

Nov 19, 2020, 6:36 PM | Updated: 8:16 pm

LEHI, Utah – Officials with Intermountain Healthcare broke ground Thursday on a new Primary Children’s Hospital in Utah County.

The new location will be in Lehi near Interstate 15, and a donation of $50 million from the Larry H. and Gail Miller family made it possible.

The 468,000-square-foot hospital will make a big difference for families like the Partidas, who live in Utah County.

“We’re excited for this new hospital for just families in the future,” Teri Partida said.

In 2016 Teri and Jacob Partida were fearful after their daughter Brailey was involved in a lawnmower accident. The fear quickly turned into relief.

“My whole family was treated so well at Primary Children’s,” Jacob Partida said while holding back tears.

Talking about his now 9-year-old daughter’s accident brought up a lot of emotion. “They really saved her life,” he said.

The June 2016 accident made local news and the Partidas were living a nightmare.

“The accident resulted in the loss of her right limb (leg) and extreme damage to her lower backside,” Partida said.

Brailey Partida spent 29 days in the trauma unit at Primary Children’s Salt Lake campus.

“We’re here in Utah County. So a few minutes flight for her, but a 45-minute drive for us. One of the longest drives of our lifetime,” said Jacob Partida.

That is why this campus, named after the Miller family, is critical to Intermountain Healthcare’s $500 million promise to create a model health care system for children.

“Nearly one-third of primary children’s patients come from Utah County and south Salt Lake County,” said the hospital’s new administrator Lisa Paletta. “Additionally, Utah County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the country.”

Brailey Partida has come a long way and is now back to being a kid again, but the visits to the hospital are not over.

“It is just going to be wonderful. It is in our backyard,” said Teri Partida.

Construction is expected to be complete by October 2023 and the target opening date is early 2024.
