SALT LAKE CITY — A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after he was stabbed in the stomach in the Ballpark neighborhood Thursday night. The suspect was taken into custody.
The Salt Lake City Police Department said they received a 911 call about an assault that happened at 1470 S. State Street just after 8:30 p.m.
A probable cause statement identified the suspect as 24-year-old Nathaniel Pratt Ferguson, and said he was still at the scene when officers arrived. The statement said they found a large kitchen knife on the ground near where the stabbing took place.
The statement said Ferguson admitted to stabbing the victim one or two times, and said that “the victim requested that he be stabbed.”
Ferguson is accused of aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
“The circumstances of the alleged assault remain under investigation,” the Salt Lake City Police Department said. “At this time, there is no apparent risk to our community.”
