WEST VALLEY CITY — A man died in an auto-pedestrian crash early Sunday on Interstate 215.
At approximately 5:12 a.m., the 23-year-old man was struck by a car traveling north near 3100 South on I-215 West in West Valley City. According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a Ford driver noticed a pedestrian on the road and attempted to avoid him.
“(The driver) swerved to the left but hit a male pedestrian that was in northbound lanes and knocked the pedestrian to the left into number two lane,” the UHP press release stated.
UHP said a gray Subaru Outback and a white sedan then hit the man. The man sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
According to UHP, the driver of the Ford stopped and waited for police to arrive. The Subaru stopped but left the scene and called the police. The driver of the white sedan did not stop, and the police have not been contacted by them.
The freeway was closed for about three to four hours. UHP is investigating why the pedestrian was on the freeway and is searching for the other vehicles involved in this crash.
