Man dies in hospital after being shot by Salt Lake City police officer during traffic stop

SALT LAKE CITY — A man who allegedly attacked a police officer with a weapon during a traffic stop has died at the hospital.
According to police, Chandler Grillone, 32, approached a Salt Lake City police officer during a traffic stop at 375 S. 765 West Thursday morning. Police said Grillone had a weapon but did not say what it was.
SLCPD said the officer gave “multiple commands to Grillone,” and Grillone “confronted, challenged, and attacked the SLCPD officer.” During the confrontation, the officer fired at least one round.
Grillone was sent to the hospital and was reported dead Friday evening. The officer received an “injury consistent with a sharp-edged object,” according to the SLCPD press release, but the injury is not life-threatening.
