MOAB — Police are warning gun owners to secure their firearms after a man wandered off with a rifle from an unlocked car Sunday morning.
On Monday, the Moab Police Department said the man stole a rifle from a vehicle behind the Best Western Plus Canyonlands Inn at 16 S. Main Street.
“We believe he may be from out of town, so we’re requesting the public watch for him in the off-chance he may be staying in town or in another hotel/motel at this time,” police said in a Facebook post.
Police said another vehicle was broken into Sunday night and a pistol was taken. In both thefts, neither car was locked.
“Please lock your cars and NEVER store a firearm in your vehicle overnight if you have any other options,” Moab police said.
If anyone has info about these thefts, contact the Grand County Sheriff’s Office dispatch, select option “0,” and ask for a Moab police officer.
