SALT LAKE CITY — A spokesperson for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Saturday that President Jason Michael Soulier passed away unexpectedly while serving in the France Lyon Mission. He was 54.
The spokesperson, Sam Penrod, said President Soulier “had been feeling ill for a few days preceding his death,” but an official cause of death had not yet been determined. Penrod said he died in his sleep.
“Elder James W. McConkie III, second counselor in the Europe Central Area Presidency, and his wife, Laurel, are traveling to Lyon to support Sister Soulier and provide temporary leadership of the mission, including the approximately 200 full-time missionaries currently serving,” Penrod said.
Soulier began serving as a mission president in June of this year.
“President Soulier is survived by his wife and mission companion, Sister Jennifer H. Soulier, along with their four adult children,” Penrod said. “We express our love and deepest sympathies to President Soulier’s family and all the missionaries in the France Lyon Mission during this difficult time.”
