SALT LAKE CITY — The woman hit and killed Tuesday by a suspected drunk driver was pregnant with her second child.

Libbie Allan, who had just celebrated her 24th birthday on Monday, died on the way to the hospital.

“She was the most genuine soul, who absolutely radiated pure love,” said a GoFundMe account set up to help cover funeral costs and medical expenses.

“She was wise well beyond her years, an old soul,” the GoFundMe description said. “As her husband said, she was everyone’s best friend. Humble, kind, loving.”

Allan’s two-year-old daughter, Clara, was also hit by the car. She survived and is listed in critical condition.

“She was outside every single day with Clara,” said Allan’s longtime friend Brookelyn Tuckett. “They went on walks every single day.”

Tuckett grew up with Allan in Eagle Mountain and said they were both expecting a second child.

“Libbie was 17 weeks pregnant. We are both 17 weeks pregnant,” Tuckett said. “We found out about the same time that we were going to be having kids at the same time again.”

The two were struck while on the sidewalk along 1700 South near 900 East. Police said the vehicle that hit them swerved through the oncoming lane and onto the sidewalk. The car then traveled through two front yards and fence before going back onto road.

“I don’t think that anybody ever expected that she’d be on a daily walk, like she is every single day with her daughter, down a small residential road and someone would jump the curb and hit her and her daughter,” Tuckett said.

The driver of the car, identified as Jack Archibald, 53, of West Valley City, was later found hiding in a shed and arrested, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Officers booked Archibald in to jail on suspicion of automobile homicide, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

Tuckett describes her best friend as an artist, who loved life and learning about those around her.

“Libbie always gave every part of herself to every person she came into contact with,” Tuckett said. “Libbie never held a grudge. Libbie was never offended. Libbie was never caught off guard by people being human.”
