Repairs Continue As More Than 100K Still Without Power Wednesday

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The severe wind Tuesday knocked out power for more than 100,000 people.
Many of those customers are still in the dark Wednesday.
At its peak, more than 170,000 people were without power. Rocky Mountain Power has been working around the clock to restore services, but the lights are still off for many people in Utah.
Wednesday morning winds were not helping restorations efforts, either.
Spencer Hall with Rocky Mountain Power said morning gusts were preventing workers from being able to safely fix lines.
Hall said that due to the sheer number of outages, there is a possibility some customers could be without power into Thursday.
He noted later that there have been some accusations that crews have been neglecting the west side of the valley. Hall said that Rocky Mountain Power does not prioritize neighborhoods based on socioeconomic status, and the bulk of the wind damage happened on the east side near the canyons.
Hall said crews are prioritizing returning power to the most people as quickly as possible. This meant focusing on repairing substations that were hit hardest and then working outward.
