Wyoming snowmobiler killed in avalanche near Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Weber County – A man is dead after he was caught in an avalanche while snowmobiling in the Monte Cristo area Monday.
On Monday night, the Rich County Sheriff’s Office said 37-year-old Scott Wright from Evanston, Wyoming, was snowmobiling in the Monte Cristo area with a friend when the avalanche occurred.
“The friend was unable to locate the victim and called for help,” the sheriff’s office said.
The Rich County Search and Rescue team arrived to help at approximately 3 p.m., the sheriff’s office said, as well as other first responders including a Life Flight helicopter, a Utah Department of Safety helicopter and a Black Hawk helicopter.
“The snow was very deep where the avalanche occurred and it took nearly four hours to locate the victim,” the sheriff’s office said.
Wright was reportedly found just after 6 p.m. Monday, buried in the Monte Cristo area near Huntsville, according to the Utah Avalanche Center.

Sheriff Jensen with the Cache County Sheriff’s Office told KSL TV that one person was transported to a hospital by a medical helicopter Monday night. Their condition was not disclosed.
