Springville student arrested after allegedly threatening another student with a gun

SPRINGVILLE — A teenager was arrested Thursday after allegedly bringing a gun to Springville High School and threatening another student.
Officers were called about 1:30 p.m. after “a very observant teacher was able to notice that one of her students was visibly distressed in her class,” according to a statement from Springville police.
The teacher and police learned the student had allegedly been threatened by another student with a gun in one of the school bathrooms just before lunch, police stated. That prompted a “heavy law enforcement presence” at the school to look for the armed teen.

“Through interviews with the victim and other students who witnessed the incident, we were able to gain the name and identifying information for the juvenile suspect,” police stated. “Officers determined that the juvenile suspect had left the school after the incident and was later located by detectives and officers.”
The student was arrested and booked into juvenile detention for investigation of aggravated assault, brandishing a weapon and bringing a gun to school. The age and gender of the student were not released.
Springville High School posted a message on its Facebook page late Thursday night thanking parents and students “for your patience as we worked through this with law enforcement” while also assuring them it was an isolated incident between two students.
