There is no downtime for Olympic athletes. Although it is winter, summer athletes are spending much of the next month cheering on their brothers and sisters competing in the Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
“If you are an Olympian, you are an Olympian for life. You’ve represented your country on the greatest stage in the world, and we know what the Winter athletes are going through right now,” gold medalist swimmer Missy Franklin said.
She was among three summer athletes attending the Coca-Cola Taste of the Olympic Winter Games Party in Park City Thursday night.
Swimming legend Summer Sanders, who is a Park City resident, said there was no better place to celebrate the first night of the Winter Games than a city where the Games were once held.
“We love our Games here in Park City and having the event here just makes sense,” Sanders said.
Olympic gold-medal-winning gymnast Simone Biles said it was important to cheer on members of Team USA.
“We know what it’s like to go to the Olympics. You cheer them on and watch and give full support,” she said. “I know once we go to the Summer Olympics, they will do just the same, so it is amazing.”
Coca-Cola threw the party to celebrate their 90-year partnership with the Olympic Games.
