TONGA – Cold, wind, rain and a late Wednesday night didn’t stop Latter-day Saints in Tonga from showing up along the roadside to welcome their prophet to their country.
One group used a generator to light up a sign which read: “We Thank Thee O God for Our Prophet.”
President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints arrived on the island at about 10 p.m. local time after meeting with church members in Fiji.

“It’s the first time I get to meet the prophet face to face,” said one member just minutes before he drove by. “I can’t wait.”
Sione Folau Langi told KSL’s Dan Rascon that it is a “great blessing” to have the prophet come to town.
“I would stand out in the snow if I had to just to see the prophet,” she said.
The members said they can’t wait for what Nelson will say during a devotional on Thursday evening where some 10,000 people are expected to attend.
Earlier in the day Thursday, Nelson is expected to meet with the King of Tonga and other government leaders.
Nelson is on the last week of his nine-day, seven-country Pacific Ministry that started on May 16 on the big Island of Hawaii.
From Hawaii, President Nelson Traveled to Samoa, Australia, Auckland New Zealand, Fiji and now Tonga. From Tonga he will end his trip in Tahiti.
