SALT LAKE CITY — Two juveniles were arrested for their involvement in a string of smash-and-grab crimes, according to the Unified Police Department.
Sgt. Aymee Race with UPD said police believe two incidents in one week were related.
In the first incident on Jan. 6, a vehicle rammed into a mobile store in Salt Lake City near 1300 East 32 S. at approximately 3 a.m. Race said although the building was hit, the individuals did not get inside.
The other incident happened on Jan. 10 in Kearns at 4 a.m. Police said a vehicle rammed into another mobile store on 49oo West 6200 S. Race said the individuals stole multiple high-priced items from that store and caused significant damage to the building.
After interviewing several police agencies and residents in Salt Lake City and Utah County, Race said similar details from smash-and-grab crimes matched the juveniles’ descriptions. According to UPD, the cases involved stealing vehicles and using those vehicles in the crimes.
The two suspects are in custody. UPD believes two additional people, a male and a female, also took part in the crimes. UPD is asking the public to help identify anyone who might be involved, as they assess the cost and damages.
