VIRGIN, Utah — Authorities said two people were killed in a crash along state Route 9, approximately 10 miles from Zion National Park.

Sgt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 9 a.m. Monday.

A Toyota Camry was traveling westbound when it left the road for an unknown reason near milepost 23. Roden said the Camry corrected and spun into the path of a Ford van.

Troopers said the van collided broadside with the passenger side of the Toyota, and both of the Toyota’s occupants, an adult male and an adult female, were killed.

Roden said the van’s two occupants were taken to an area hospital in fair condition.

Lane restrictions were in place Monday afternoon but lanes were open for both directions.

Officials with the Department of Public Safety said the driver of the Toyota was not wearing a seatbelt, but the passenger was.

They also believe the two van occupants were not properly restrained.

The victims were identified Tuesday as 85-year-old Warda A. Lewis and 86-year-old Floyd L. Lewis from Rockville.
