SALT LAKE CITY — It’s the “Start of Something New” for Zac Efron and the Park City-based company Kodiak Cakes — a new product launch to kick the year off.

The “High School Musical” and, most recently, “A Family Affair” actor is helping the company reveal the new product: an apple brown sugar pecan oatmeal. The limited-edition oatmeal will be available for $5.98, the company said Tuesday,  and will include six packs of instant oatmeal each.

Efron, who joined the company as its chief brand officer in 2022, contributed to the recipe with some of his favorite ingredients: chia seeds, pumpkin seeds and cranberry seeds.

“Developing this oatmeal with Kodiak was such a fun experience,” Efron said. “My goal was to create an oatmeal that’s really delicious, and really good for you — so with less sugar and more nutritious ingredients.”

The product is made up of 14 grams of protein, prebiotic fiber and 100% whole-grain oatmeal, the company said. Each box can be cooked with water and a microwave or by steeping in hot water.

“I think we nailed it, and I’m so excited for people to try it. And I’m extremely grateful that Kodiak has decided to donate a portion of every sale towards a cause that’s important to me — wildlife preservation,” Efron said.

Efron joined Kodiak on the annual brand campaign called “Keep It Wild,” which partnered with outdoor brands to create similar products and donate the proceeds to the Vital Ground Foundation. The proceeds of this product launch, though, will be dispersed to multiple non-profit organizations, the company said.

“We are so excited to be launching this limited-edition apple brown sugar pecan oatmeal with Zac,” said Chief Marketing Officer Cory Bayers. “Packed with protein and nutrient-dense ingredients, this oatmeal inspires consumers to get out and live epic adventures in the great outdoors. It also ties back to one of our core values of giving back, ensuring today’s youth enjoys tomorrow’s wild places.”

The oatmeal will be available exclusively for purchase at Walmart stores or Walmart.com while supplies last.
